Now a new district is supposed to take the pressure off
Starting shot for a new residential area in Frankfurt. Apartments with low rents will soon be built on an old industrial area in the middle of the city.
Frankfurt – The housing situation is dramatic: High rents, inflation and a shortage of housing are a burden on tenants. After the failed construction project on the A5 in the northwest of Frankfurt, the city of Frankfurt came under increasing pressure. Now the development of the 4.5 hectare area at the Sandelmühle in Frankfurt Heddernheim provide relief.
“What is happening here at the Sandelmühle is land recycling,” says Mike Josef from the Frankfurt planning department. Affordable apartments are to be built on a large scale on the old industrial site of Diehl Aerospace GmbH. I died for that City of Frankfurt already in October subsidies for the construction of affordable apartments, explains Joseph. This is intended to counteract the continuing tense situation on the housing market. Because the construction of new apartments at low prices is no longer affordable for many private investors due to the increased cost of raw materials – government support is needed here.
Living in the new district in Frankfurt Heddernheim: These rental prices are expected
Not only is the city of Frankfurt funding the construction project with 8.5 million euros, but the state of Hesse is also involved with 11.5 million euros. With the help of this subsidy totaling 20 million euros, apartments with rents of 5.50 euros or 8.50 to 10.50 euros per square meter are being built. The implementation of the social housing is overseen by ABG Frankfurt Holding GmbH in cooperation with the private real estate and construction company Ten Brinke Bau.
Housing shortage in Frankfurt: Over 200 new apartments with low rents
A total of nine apartment buildings with 207 apartments and 67 townhouses are to be built. The construction of a day-care center and the direct connection to the Sandelmühle underground station should ensure an additional quality of life. The marketing of the apartment buildings by Ten Brinke Bau has already begun. And so many Frankfurters can soon look forward to a new, affordable home. (mm)
