FAS fined Apple
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has decided to fine the American corporation Apple 1.12 billion rubles ($17 million). This is reported by the department.
Summer 2021 FAS issued Apple’s 2021 Antitrust Compliance Order This was due to a ban on the use of mobile applications for the iOS platform (for iPhone smartphones) by a payment system alternative to Apple’s own payment system.
Including redirection of the game with registration forms inside applications on external resources is not allowed. In the event of a case, the application will appear in the App Store – the app store for the iPhone. The commission in the Apple App Store ranges from 15% to 30%.

In connection with the forced refusal, the FAS opened a case against Apple. Yandex and the Internet Video Association, unsatisfactory restrictions on making payments in mobile applications were involved in the consideration of cases. Among other things, Apple prohibits Yandex from mentioning the Yandex.Plus subscription in mobile applications, which provides access to a number of company services.
In the summer of 2022 FAS adopted Apple is guilty of violating antitrust laws. Now the department has determined the amount of the fine. By the time of publication, the press service of the Russian representative office of the FAS had not responded to a request from CNews on this issue. Earlier, Apple challenged the FAS order on this issue in the Moscow Arbitration Court, but was refused.
FAS vs. Google
In the summer of 2022 FAS issued an order similar to that issued by Apple to Google Corporation. The corporation also prohibits mobile application developers for private Android systems from using payment methods other than compliance with the Google Play enterprise payment system.
Later, the FAS reported that Google complied with the requirements of the corporation. In particular, mobile applications in Russia have been given the opportunity to use alternative payment methods.

Claims against Google and Apple regarding payment for in-game applications became especially relevant in the spring of 2022, when, after the start of the economic operation in Ukraine, American bank cards were no longer accepted in the App Store and Google Play.

Foreign players also complained about Apple and Google employees. For example, in 2020, mobile game developer Epic Games violated Apple’s requirements and allowed third-party payment methods in the game Fortnite, as a result of which the application was removed from the App Store.
In response, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple in a California court. The position of Epic Games was supported by the social network Facebook (its owner of the Meta association, recognized in extremist Russia). The court ruled in favor of Apple, however, the corporation lifted the ban on the prohibition of users of mobile applications about alternative payment methods.
For its part, Apple has decided to reduce the fee for applications that earn from $1 million to 15%. Epic Games analysis filed a similar request against Google as well.
