Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven almost late for New Year’s reception due to accident on A1 | Apeldoorn
Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven were almost late yesterday for the traditional New Year’s reception of the royal couple at the Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam. The ride to the palace was quite cumbersome, Van Vollenhoven writes on Twitter.
“I’m still smiling, but the car ride to reach this Palace will not end,” said Margriet’s husband with a photo in which he smiled at the camera that was waving. ‘There was a serious accident – with a helicopter – on the A1 towards Apeldoorn, but that accident also had a major effect on the A1 towards A’dam!!’
Van Vollenhoven is even about the chain collision on the A1 near Terschuur, even before 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday. At least four vehicles were involved. Definitely a person serious serious injuryan air ambulance landed next to the highway.
The destruction after the accident was so great that the A1 in the direction of Apeldoorn was completely closed. The first lane did not open again until around 9 p.m. and the road was not completely clear again until around 10 p.m.
Apparently the accident also affected the traffic that had to cross the other side of the A1 towards Amsterdam. Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven live in Huis Het Loo in Apeldoorn and have to go to the Royal Palace on Dam Square.
Hurry in
Margriet hurried in upon arrival, avoiding the photographers present. This was dismissed on Twitter as ‘no sense in a photo’, among other things. But Van Vollenhoven is happy that they could be. ‘I could have come afterwards!!’
Princess Margriet and her wedding anniversary are not present today at the second New Year’s reception for foreign diplomats in the Netherlands. In addition to the royal couple, Princess Beatrix is there.
