The University of Southern California has renamed its athletic venue after an alum Allyson Felixthe most decorated female athlete at the Olympics with 11 medals, including seven gold.
The former Cromwell Field is now Allyson Felix Field.
Felix made the call while in high school in 2003, then enrolled at USC later that year and graduated from elementary school in May 2008.
“When Allyson and I talked about naming the field after her, she responded with the grace and humility she has displayed throughout her life,” USC President Carol Folt he said in a press release. “Allyson Felix Field will recognize her outstanding achievements as a sports legend and Trojan – while also showing our admiration for her role as an entrepreneur, advocate and advocate for women.”
While a student at USC, Felix regularly exercised before dawn, went to class until mid-afternoon, and then practiced again until dark before doing his homework. She promised her family that she would get a college degree, and after her career, she planned to become a fifth-grade teacher.
Felix retired last year, 19 years after enrolling at USC, and is now the founder and president of footwear brand Saysh. She also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from USC and gave the commencement speech for the Class of 2022.
“Being born and raised in Los Angeles and having this kind of history at USC, I am absolutely humbled,” Felix said in the post. “It’s such an honor to be a part of history on campus, and it’s such a special place for me.”
