Shortage of doctors, among the solutions the opening towards the free profession. Battistini, Asmo: “Excellent proposal”
Health Secretariat at work to secure the San Marino health system after the Coronavirus emergency. “Covid is no longer scary – says the secretary Ciavatta – now we are in a completely different situation and we need to focus on resetting healthcare in the medium to long term. First of all we will eliminate the restrictive measures for the Covid, such as the ban on going out with a fever higher than 37.5°C”. There are three guidelines to follow, themes on which the majority of discussions have already begun: first of all a new organizational act of the ISS. “The last one dates back to 2004, a geological era ago – explains Ciavatta -. Our health care must be modern and be on the market (which does not mean privatising). There will also be a reorganization of the various sections and needs”.
There Fondiss reform is the second point and finally there is the biggest problem: making up for the shortage of doctors, a concern also common to the Italian system. To do this – according to Ciavatta – we must also focus on freelancer, to ensure that “our doctors can carry it out inside the hospital and to attract more doctors to the Republic”. A discussion with the Executive Committee and the structure of the ISS and with the majority is already underway on the text of the provision. “A sacrosanct proposal that we fully espouse – he applauds Antonio Battistini, president of the Hospital Doctors Association –. It would be an element of great attraction, also thanks to the state-of-the-art equipment our hospital is equipped with. The population and politics must not look at this choice with fear, because it would be an incentive for the doctors already employed in San Marino and could also solve the problem of staff shortages”.
