Post-election negotiations: Prague could have a new leadership in mid-February
The Prague coalition Together will offer the Pirates and STAN a majority in the council
“The negotiations were carried out in a positive and constructive spirit. But there were other questions that need to be worked out. Five work teams have been formed that will work in the following hours and days,” said Zdeněk Zajíček, a member of the TOGETHER negotiation team, adding that if they reach an agreement, the documents will go to the party structures for approval. According to him, the new leadership of Prague could be formed on February 16 at the planned council meeting.
According to candidate for mayor Bohuslav Svoboda, the negotiations took place in a spirit in which all parties involved want to reach an agreement. “The other side listened to us and we will resolve the disputed issues,” he said, adding that the feelings are very positive.
A sharp proposal is not for Praha Sobě
The question remains how will Prague Soba, which is part of the Stability Alliance together with the Pirates, turn out. “It’s not something we should be quiet about, but the Pirates,” said Zajíček.
According to STAN, a sharp proposal for the formation of a coalition fell on the government’s plan, which even now does not include Prague Sobě. “Praha Sobě must get a decent offer,” pointed out Petr Hlaváček (STAN), saying that it could be about representation in committees.
Who will step down from the council?
The representatives of the Pirates want to meet with Praha Sobě on Tuesday and discuss the next step. Even the TOGETHER coalition was given “homework”. “She has to decide who will step down from the one seat in the council that she gave up,” added Jana Komrsková (Pirates), chairwoman of the Committee for Infrastructure, Technical Equipment and the Environment.
Five groups, five topics to solve
According to the outgoing mayor Zdenek Hřiba, it is necessary to solve five topics that are a priority for them. “Laws are important for Prague – from my point of view, they are essential added value if we decide on a coalition on the government’s plan,” said Hřib.
Furthermore, the groups have to clarify responsibility in the council, the climate plan, new committees that should be created at the council, the issue of the management of city companies and their control mechanisms, and at the same time they will take the form of a coalition agreement.
