A serious accident in which two trucks collided blocked the Prague ring road in the direction of travel from the airport to the D1 highway on Tuesday, January 17, an hour before noon. The collision with serious consequences, after which the firefighters and paramedics had a lot of work, occurred at the highway kilometer 16.8 – i.e. after the Oře exit at the 19th kilometer and a little before exit 16 Barrandov.

After the accident, the lane towards Modletice remained closed; possibly policemen drive in the left lane. But the accident also slowed down the traffic in the opposite direction: drivers heading towards Ruzyna and the D5 highway slowed down to be able to play out what was going against it.

The injured driver, who remained wedged in the completely demolished wreckage of his truck’s tractor cab with a serious injury, had to be rescued by the firefighters – moreover, even with the use of hydraulic extrication tools, it was an extremely difficult intervention. In the end, the patient was fully taken care of by the paramedics, who already cared for the injured man during the rescue.
He suffered a severe head injury and multiple other injuries that required the use of equipment to transport immobilized patients; this applies, for example, in the case of a suspected spinal injury. Before the transport to the hospital in Motol, the paramedics put not only the nurses, but also the driver into artificial sleep and the airway providers.
The circumstances of the accidents remain under police investigation. The Traffic Information Center of the Police Presidium anticipates that traffic restrictions at the scene of the accident will last until late afternoon. The very long queue in front of the accident site, associated with a very noticeable delay, even reached the D5 highway. Even the alternative route through the villages of Nučice, Dobříč, Jinočany, Zbuzany and Ořech to Prague’s K Austis Street could not avoid heavy traffic loads.
