The modernization of the Prague – Kladno line and the new runway to the airport is getting delayed. It will be ready in 2030 at the earliest
The main problem remains the passage through Prague 6.
Direct electric trains between Prague and Kladno will not run until 2030. The Ministry of Transport has admitted another delay to the large-scale project with a budget of 46 billion crowns (so far). It is supposed to bring a faster and more modern connection between the metropolis and the largest city in the Central Bohemian Region and at the same time a rail connection to Václav Havel Airport.
When last week a complete reconstruction and modernization of the section Bubny – Výstaviště has begun it should start in Kladno in May, the other sections have more and more to start. Still in 2019 at the same time Railway reports Jiří Svoboda at the general director’s meeting with the then prime minister Andrej Babiš he talked about 2028, when he will already be able to reach the airport by train. It is now clear that the deadline is unrealistic.
The delay results from the Ministry of Transport’s response to the issue of investments in railway lines. Petr Borecký was interested in the development due to the planning of the operation and transport orders of the central Bohemian square for transport.
Veleslavín – Kladno until 2029
“By December 2029, the entire line Prague-Masarykovo nádraží – Kladno-Ostrovec will not be modernized and electrified, which has its reasons. This is primarily due to the complex negotiation of the route under Dejvice, which is more time-consuming than we would like. For the Prague-Veleslavín – Kladno-Ostrovec section, completion can be expected by 12/2029,” replied the Ministry of Transport.
the completion of the entire Prague-Masarykovo nádraží section, including the turns and the roundabout with the new Prague-Václav Havel Airport station, can be expected after 2030, according to Minister Kompletní. “Among other things, due to the complex negotiation of the passage through the Dejvice area and the realization of the tunnel between the Prague-Dejvice and Prague-Veleslavín stations,” it is stated in the answers.
The Railway Administration is currently presenting that it should be completed in 2029. General Administration of Railways Jiří Svoboda published last week on his twitter account a map showing the completion of all sections in 2029. He did not respond to the question whether he really meant 2029.
According to Railways spokesperson Nela Friebová, the current approved investment costs for the entire modernization of the Prague – Kladno line are 46 billion crowns. This amount also includes the originally planned turn at Václav Havel Airport. “This section does not yet include the rounding of the Václav Havel Airport railway connection. For this event, the project plan is currently being processed and the amount of costs will be determined.” she added.
The Railway Administration currently has a building permit for the sections Kladno – Kladno-Ostrovec, Prague-Bubny – Prague Výstaviště and the Masarykovo nádraží station. “At the same time, the construction and water management procedures for some additional buildings and roads are ongoing, but this does not prevent the implementation of the mentioned buildings, with the exception of Masaryk nádraží, where we have yet to issue a tender,” Frieb added.
