Wife of Antwerp ex-boxing champion Daniëlla Somers passed away: “Sad to have to let you go already” (Merksem)
Cindy Van Dyck (49), the partner of ex-boxing champion Daniëlla Somers (58), is no more. The Antwerp woman posts this on her Instagram channel. Cindy had been battling a dangerous form of cancer for two years. “Sad to let you go already”, Daniella writes.
Daniëlla Somers, who runs the boxing club The Bulldogs in Merksem, has been married to Cindy Van Dyck since 2005. Daniella was 37 and Cindy 29 when they fell for each other. Both then came from a failed marriage with a man.
Last year she spoke in our paper about the struggle Cindy suspected. “One thing determined my whole life: my wife has been in a cancer trajectory for almost two years,” it sounded then. “She is battling a rare and aggressive cancer. She has been treated in Leuven. Now we follow a different therapy in Saint Augustine.”
“So what may the future bring? Simple: that Cindy may get well again”, desired Daniella. “Other than that I have everything I want: my club, my children, my friends.”
Her partner Cindy eventually died at the age of 49 from the effects of the disease. “Enormously grateful for every moment we lost together, the happiness and the intense love,” Daniella writes on Instagram. “Sad to let you go already.”
