Péter Ungár: Without him, Hungary will be a worse place
Education, knowledge, wonderful intellectual humor are combined with the name of TGM.
Miklós Gáspár Tamás has died. As a public writer, classical intellectual and politician, he fought for a good and lovable Hungary throughout his life. Where we stand up for the poorest, where we do not trample on human rights, where we have responsibility for each other and our environment, and where we condemn extremists. By his own admission, he was forced to readjust his political views several times, but his true views never changed. He was leftist, he was green, he was a democrat.
Education, knowledge, wonderful intellectual humor are combined with the name of TGM. Everyone is yellow. If necessary, he distracted the Prime Minister for a commemoration, loudly spoke out against the most serious violations of the law, against extremism, against the excesses of consumer capitalism, but of course (rightly) criticized the opposition parties as well.
He didn’t shy away and didn’t make compromises. The entire political community of the LMP remembers Miklós Gáspár Tamás with respect, one of the most important Hungarian thinkers and public figures of the past 40 years. Without him, Hungary will be a worse place.
God rest his soul!
