For two weeks, Selin K. from Altstetten could hardly eat or sleep. The reason: On January 1, her dog Karam was called out of the balcony door and never returned. After a long time of worrying and an intensive search, the male is now back with his owner. “It’s an indescribable feeling. I’m over the moon, »says Selin.
The English Pointer was captured in the community of Unteriberg in the canton of Schwyz, about 50 kilometers away. A week ago, the owner received information from a village resident that the male had been spotted there. Immediately after the report, Selin went to the village and searched desperately for Karam.
Called in professional help
The immediate search for the dog was unsuccessful. In desperation, Selin decided to spend the night in a hotel in Unteriberg in order to continue searching for her dog the following day. When she stood in front of the accommodation the next morning and went looking for her, several people asked her about her dog. Without hesitation, three women agreed to support Selin. “I am extremely grateful to them and to the woman who initially informed me that I had seen the dog in Unteriberg.”
With combined forces they wanted to find Karam. And indeed: Selin saw her dog from afar. But this did not respond to the calls of its owner and continued to run away. Without further ado, they decided to seek professional help. “I contacted Pettrailer Switzerland for more support,” says Selin.
“I can finally stop crying”
Pettrailer Switzerland, an association that supports dog owners in finding and securing lost dogs, then points out food traps in the community. At the same time, the four women continued their search. But the effort was still unsuccessful. “Pettrailer then informed me to stop searching and trust the traps,” says Selin. The woman from Zurich listened to the people from Pettrailer Switzerland and went back to Altstetten with a heavy heart.
Daniel Baumgartner, Vice President of Pettrailer Switzerland, says to 20 minutes: “If the animals are scared, they get into an escape mode. The owner can then also emit a danger.” Therefore, it is sometimes counterproductive when dog owners are actively and very committed to looking for their dog.
So the wait began for the woman from Zurich. But redemption followed on Saturday: Karam was captured. “A stone falls from my heart. The relief was huge. I can finally stop crying.” But not only she is happy, Karam is also happy to be back home.
A finder’s fee of 500 francs will be donated
“Most of all, I want to explain myself to everyone who helped me find Karam. Without her, I would still be looking for my dog today,” says Selin. Among other things, the Zurich woman addresses Heidi Ott from Unteriberg. It was the 38-year-old who saw the dog in the village and pointed it out to Selin.
This note is worthwhile. Selin K. offered a finder’s fee of 500 francs for information or for catching the dog. Karam’s owner wanted to transfer the money to Ott. But the woman from Unteriberg waives the money. “I didn’t contribute much to the search. Others were more helpful and earned the money more.”
This means, among other things, SB* – also from Unteriberg. She drove the desperate dog owner around the village in her car. But B. and two other helpers also waive the finder’s fee. “We decided to donate the money to the Pettrailer association,” says B. It is important that the owner has her dog back. “And we in the village had a little action. That wasn’t bad either, »says B. with a laugh on the phone.
