Star surgeon Clavien’s expulsion becomes a legal case
After the scandal at the university hospital, the forensic psychiatrist Frank Urbaniok shows solidarity with the transplant specialist.
The management of the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) has reacted. After the Sunday newspaper reported last week, that clinic director Pierre-Alain Clavien has to leave the hospital at the end of the month, she publishes an internal statement. André Zemp, President of the USZ Hospital Council, denied having eliminated Clavien. “It is true that – unlike 2021 – after his retirement on January 31, 2023, no extension of his work will be concluded with him,” says Zemp. Milestones of the agreement are said to have not been met. “On December 20, 2022, as President of the Hospital Council, I explained this decision to Clavien in the presence of our CEO Gregor Zünd and the representatives of the UZH management and the medical faculty,” Zemp continues.
