Uncle who died in Antwerp girl gets eight years in prison for importing cocaine
The drug criminal, nicknamed ‘El Magico’, is the uncle of the 11-year-old girl Firdaous who died earlier this week in Merksem, a borough of the Belgian city.
EB was in court with Zouhair L. (28) and an employee of the port authority, 35-year-old Mara DS, who became involved in cocaine smuggling.
L. received six years in prison and a fine of 20,000 euros, DS was suspended for three years and a fine of 8,000 euros. The three were arrested two years ago after the police intercepted communication between them about a container of narcotics that was on its way.
Encrypted messages
This happened after the Dutch and Belgian police had managed to crack the key communication service Sky ECC. That messaging app was used in the underworld.
The police services were able to read along for weeks and prevent resulting liquidations, intercept drug shipments and eventually arrest suspects.
Younes EB is on trial again on February 2 in a cocaine import case, along with his brothers Othman, Nordin and ten others. EB was already sentenced to five years in prison in 2019 for deviations from the drug law and membership of a criminal organization.
Dubai
His brother Othman is considered a ‘big fish’ by the judiciary, but he has been living in Dubai for ten years.
After the death of his sister’s 11-year-old daughter, Othman told the Gazet van Antwerpen: “We will search for the perpetrators together with the police and the judiciary.” Two older sisters of the girl and the father were also injured in the shooting in Merksem.
