Rendez-vous: the best of art in Europe
Must-see exhibitions in Vienna, Paris and Madrid.
Vienna, The Albertina
“Paths of freedom from Jackson Pollock to Maria Lassnig“, at the Albertina in Vienna, is an exhibition dedicated to the works of the Abstract Expressionists of the New York School and their Austrian counterparts in the 1950s, a key period for art after the Second World War in which painting took completely new: instead of figurative representation or geometric abstraction, artists have pursued a impulsive approach to shape, color and matter.
Paris, Orsay Museum
The Orsay Museum of Paris takes visitors on a journey through the work of Edvard Munch with the exhibition “Edvard Munch. A poem of life, of love and of death” which presents 100 works, spanning 60 years of work, a demonstration of the genius of the Norwegian painter known to all for the iconic Scream.
The complexity of Munch’s message is largely unknown, the exhibition seeks to show his entire artistic evolution. Munch’s fears shine through in the sinuous lines of his compositions, paintings, etchings, lithographs and wood sculptures, as well as in the powerful and dynamic colors he used. An unmissable event for anyone in Paris.
Madrid, Queen Sofia
“Blue Daisy. Margherita Rita Rica Dynamite” is the first monographic exhibition in Europe dedicated to the creative Guatemalan (1931-1998), one of the main Central American artists of the twentieth century.
His production includes paintings and sculptures as well as artist’s books with drawings, collages and poems.
Grew up in the United States and Canada, less conservative than Guatemala, hers anti-system and feminist thinking he clashed with the conservative society of the time.
