As part of Czech Radio’s pre-election coverage, the iROZHLAS.cz server sent out a Presidential questionnaire to all candidates containing questions about their plans with Prague Castle and whether they plan to publish their health status.
Eight candidates are running for the post of president of the Czech Republic (order according to the numbers drawn): Pavel Fischer, Jaroslav Bašta (SPD), Petr Pavel, Tomáš Zima, Danuše Nerudová, Andrej Babiš (ANO), Karel Diviš and Marek Hilšer (MHS).
All the candidates confirmed that they would make their health public if they advanced to the second round.
Only Jaroslav Bašta (SPD) is clear about living in Prague Castle. Danuše Nerudová and Pavel Fischer admit that they could live on his premises. The other candidates do not allow this option and would rather commute to the Castle from home only to work.
All candidates also plan to open the grounds of Prague Castle more to the public and organize cultural and social events there.
Candidates’ answers
Question #1: Disclose your medical condition if you advance to the presidential runoff? Or how detailed?
Question No. 2: If you are elected to the presidency, will you live in Prague Castle? How should the grounds of Prague Castle be used?
Pavel Fischer
1. Publish your health status to the extent necessary.
2. We are used to living as a big family. We need a big table in the dining room and kitchen where we can cook together. And since the president is a protected person, I would follow the recommendation of the Police of the Czech Republic. I am convinced that we would find suitable housing in the grounds of the Prague Castle.
I would like to open Prague Castle to people as a memorable place of Czech statehood with educational facilities for schools and students. In the premises of Prague Castle, I would like to create a center of Czech culture, modern architecture and design within the intermingling of Czech and world inspiration. And the presidential office would suit a place in the lower castle, so that it would be more efficient, more efficient and more transparent.
Jaroslav Bašta (SPD)
1. I will publish. I will ask my GP about it.
2. I will live in the Castle. I will try to remove the current restrictions if possible for security reasons.
Peter Paul
1. I have already openly answered questions about my health in the media that my condition is good and that I do not suffer from any ailments or take any medications. I am also ready to publish the report of the summary examination, which I want to take for my own sake at the ÚVN.
2. We don’t plan to. I will sleep at the Castle when the presidential program requires it. But if things go well, he will go home. There is certainly room for more events to take place at the Castle – not only cultural and social, but also educational events. I think that in this respect the Castle should be a lively place where something is always happening. It would be good if people planning a weekend in Prague were used to seeing what is happening at the Castle. What should not take place at the Castle, on the other hand, are private events for the president’s friends, that’s not what the place is for.

Tomáš Zima
1. I have already published my health condition in the media once – so YES.
2. I will not live at Prague Castle, but I will work there. The premises of the Prague Castle must be accessible to the public without restrictions and use for cultural and social events and gatherings of people.
Danuše Nerudová
1. My campaign is completely transparent and I have nothing to hide even in terms of my health. I passed a complete medical examination, the results I publish.
2. Around Prague Castle, but not on it. Kings live in the castle. I want to be a civilian president who will live in the castle. The president should be close to the people, interested in their problems and be close to them. Not to live behind the walls of the castle or chateau in Lány as in an ivory tower.
Andrej Babiš (YES)
1. I already did it. I published detailed information about my health condition in my newspaper, which we sent to all households. And even as president, I will be as transparent as possible in this regard and will regularly publish information about my health.
2. I will always live at home in Průhonice. Prague Castle belongs to the citizens of our republic, and that is why I would like to open it up more to them. I would exhibit the crown jewels more often and organize various cultural and social events at the Castle. I would also like to organize a special children’s day for the children. I would also set up a mailbox at the Castle, where people could put their ideas, complaints, wishes and simply everything that interests them.
Karel Diviš
1. Yes.
2. I want to open the Castle as much as possible. I don’t plan to live there ideally or hold much office. I would try more to drive around the regions and what routes the president takes.
Marek Hilšer (MHS)
1. The President, as well as other people in top positions, must of course provide adequate information about their state of health. In the event of hospitalization or work indisposition, the office of the president is obliged to inform appropriately and immediately.
I’m in good shape, I try to live moderately, and if I allow it, I do sports. I don’t underestimate prevention either. I think that’s enough information for now. In the event that I advance to the second round, I am ready to undergo an extraordinary medical examination and publish the result.
2. I am a supporter of the civilian concept of the presidency. There were already enough unnecessary closures at the Castle. The castle is a beautiful historical and cultural place that must live and be open to people. I would like to see more concerts, exhibitions, meetings and festivals at the Castle. The president’s office is located there, so I would go to work there. There is no need to build any new office space. State rooms may be open to the public when no state events are taking place.
The castle premises are not intended for living. In the nearby Lumbe garden, there is a villa that was built by Václav Klaus and is also used by the current president. I’ll see how it is. However, I do not consider this question relevant yet. My family and I live in Pohořelci, it wouldn’t be far from home to the Castle. I could walk or take the tram. Every morning I take my daughter to kindergarten in Mala Strana.
