Matěj Machovský, the former goalkeeper of Sparta, canceled his contract in Finland and will pay a fine
Former Sparta or Pilsen goalkeeper Matěj Machovský is in trouble. On the player’s own initiative, he ended his engagement with the Finnish team KalPa, the club is now requesting payment of a fine for valid contracts. The 29-year-old goalkeeper with one national team start has been active in the top Finnish competition since August last year. “KalPa will not allow a transfer to another club until they pay the player compensation for breach of contract,” in an official statement.
Machovský finished the previous season in Sparta Prague, but his next move to the Finnish elite was confirmed during May. He signed a one-year contract in Kuopio, which even included an option for the year 2023/24.
But the Opava native has now canceled the contract when he left KalPu of his own free will. Whether he decides to return to the Czech Republic or travels to another hockey address, he must first pay the fine that his Finnish employer will assess. According to the sport.cz server, Kometa Brno showed interest in him.
Even before the start of the regular season, he was looking forward to a job in Liiga. “He is used to playing a lot, he will be ready to take responsibility. He has been working in one of the big European clubs for many years, he is an experienced goalkeeper,” KalPy sports director Anssi Laine evaluated Machovského’s arrival.
“Liiga is a really fast competition and Finland is one of the leading hockey countries in the world. I’m looking forward to showing Kuopio my skills,” Machovský himself looked forward to the new season in a statement for the club’s website.
Finally, his Nordic mission ends after just 13 games, in which he maintained an 87.8% save success rate. The position of KalPy’s number one was won by the twenty-year-old talent Juha Jatkol at the expense of the Czech goalkeeper. Kuopio is currently two points short of a direct advance to the quarterfinals.
