The judgment against a 62-year-old man who is said to have killed his wife is to be pronounced before the Hanover Regional Court on Friday. According to the indictment, after a dispute in June in the shared apartment, he is said to have stabbed the 57-year-old with a kitchen knife until she died. The woman apparently wanted to separate from her husband. The accused is said to have alerted the police later on the day of the crime in a heavily intoxicated state. When the officers arrived in front of the house, he is said to have stormed out and stabbed a police officer. Thanks to a protective vest, he was not injured. According to a court spokeswoman, the public prosecutor’s office pleaded for a life sentence for murder and a determination of the particular severity of the guilt. He has ways of avoiding maintenance claims and wanting to get his wife’s gold and cash. The defense, on the other hand, rated the case as manslaughter – it was an affect act. At the beginning of the trial, the accused admitted, sobbing, that he could not remember the knife attack.
