– Benfica is a big and natural step for me to take. It feels right, says the 18-year-old in one Statement laid out by Nordsjælland.
In Portugal, he will, among other things, be a teammate of recently signed Casper Tengstedt from Rosenborg. The Danish attacker was ready for the Lisboa team on Wednesday.
Schjelderup has excelled in the Danish Superliga and was voted the league’s best player in the autumn season. He scored 10 goals in 17 games and contributed strength to the club from the Copenhagen suburb Farum wintering at the top of the table.
150 million
The youngster has been highly sought after by many big clubs, and now Benfica has secured his signature.
According to TV 2 Schjelderup himself had expressed above Nordsjælland that he preferred a transfer to Benfica, where he must have played an important role in the team.
– My time here has been fantastic, and I have gotten exactly what I hoped for, that I and my family visited the club and chose it at the right time, says Schjelderup about the stay in Denmark.
The transition must have a framework of around DKK 150 million. That should make him the second most expensive Norwegian teenager of all time (after Erling Braut Haaland when Borussia Dortmund bought him from Salzburg).
Leave early
From before, Fredrik Aursnes is in Benfica, who in February will meet Brugge in the Champions League round of 16.
Schjelderup is from Bodø and played for Glimt’s age-specific team until he signed for Nordsjælland as a 16-year-old in the summer of 2020. He debuted in the super league in February 2021 and quickly became a profile in the super league.
