Zurich buys 35 electric waste trucks
The city council has approved CHF 49.2 million for the conversion to fully electric refuse trucks and the necessary charging infrastructure.
The city of Zurich is converting its refuse fleet: the city council has approved an amount of CHF 49.2 million for the purchase of fully electric refuse trucks.
Two electrically powered collection vehicles are already in use. The city council announced on Wednesday that the experience with this was good. That is why the old trucks, which still run on fossil fuels and biogas, will be replaced by fully electric vehicles in the next ten years.
With the almost 50 million, the city creates 35 collection vehicles for waste, paper, cardboard and compost. In addition, eight passenger and 17 delivery vans as well as nine special vehicles will be replaced. The charging stations will also be installed at the Hagenholz and Werdholzli locations with the money.
This edition no longer has to go before the city parliament, since the city council approved the money as a bound edition.
