The first drivers will practice on the K2 tram in Prague
At the beginning of this week, he started driver training on the Tatra K2 tram car.
Prague’s newest tram addition took to the streets of Prague earlier this week for a ride with the drivers who will drive this new type of tram in Prague. In the Prague transport company, the K2 tram has expanded its collection of retro vehicles.
The Tatra K2 tram car with registration number 7000 will be delivered by DPP to the nostalgic line 23, as well as to the historic 42. The first delivery is expected during the first quarter of this year. Putting this type of car into service with passengers will be a premiere in Prague.
The renovation of the car was carried out by employees of the central workshops of the Transport Company of the City of Brno. The trams from Bratislava returned to their original form from 1977, they now bear the registration number 7000. On Thursday, December 8, the tram was loaded onto a semi-trailer and at night it set off on its way to the capital. The tram left on Monday, January 2, 2023 for the first test run to Prahy Street.
The interior of the car and the driver’s cabin have also undergone an unrecognizable transformation, which although corresponds to the original design, drivers will also find modern elements here, which are sensitively hidden so as not to disturb the original appearance of the car.
The history of the tram dates back to 1977, when it was produced at the ČKD Tatra Praha plant. From there, the car went straight to Bratislava as a training vehicle for drivers. It served there until 2009. The interesting thing is that it was never put into service with passengers. In 2008, the local carrier offered the tram for sale. Interest in the purchase was expressed by the DPP, which at the same time launched a public tender for its repair. It was the DPMB that won here.
