Night train from Dresden to Zurich without a couchette carriage
The first in December reintroduced night train “Canopus” Prague – Zurich via Bad Schandau, Dresden, Riesa and Leipzig will be on the road without a couchette car until at least the end of the month. A spokesman for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) said on request that “unforeseen defects in the energy supply systems had occurred in the rented wagons”. All three cars are affected, including the reserve car. According to the information, the SBB have these cars RDC asset rented.
Daylight seat car as a replacement on the way
Since the SBB does not have its own couchette car, there is currently a 1st class passenger car on the train as an alternative. Instead of spending the night lying in a darkened compartment, travelers sit in a brightly lit open-plan carriage all night. Travelers who have booked a seat in the couchette car can cancel their ticket or – if they want or have to travel – get a 50 percent refund of the fare. Temporarily new bookings of berths are not possible, according to the SBB spokesman.
Czech wagons are operational
The 2nd class seating car and the sleeping car, both of which are provided by the Czech State Railways, are scheduled to operate between Prague and Zurich on Euronight, it said.
The Euronight was only introduced in December. However, this night connection is not really new. At the end of 2016, Deutsche Bahn discontinued the train with the same route and the same name “Canopus” for economic reasons.
