Liverpool have been in contact with Schjelderup’s representative
The transitional saga surrounding the Norwegian prodigy Andreas Schjelderup (18) is approaching its climax, and Arilas Berg Ould-Saada in TV 2 claims at both Liverpool and Brentford have presented concrete projects to the midfielder’s representative.
However, the player himself is determined that Benfica is the best choice for his development because he is expected to have an important role in the team in the coming seasons. He has, as TV 2 understands it, expressed this himself in order to meet with FC Nordsjælland.
The Norwegian phenomenon has taken the Danish Superliga by storm this autumn. After the goal in 17 games, he was named the league’s best player in the first half of the season.
Most expensive Norwegian teenager since Haaland
In recent weeks, Darwin Nunez has been working hard for his previous club, Benfica, to secure the transfer, and now TV 2 reports that the Portuguese league leader is traveling to Copenhagen this week to handle the final details surrounding the transfer to the Norwegian U21 national team player.
There is talk of a transfer fee of over 150 million kroner in addition to a juicy resale clause, and a contract of five and a half years.
That makes Schjelderup the second most expensive Norwegian teenager of all time after Erling Braut Haaland, when the youngster was sold from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.
Bodøværingen trialled for Liverpool and several other big clubs before he went to FC Nordskjælland. At that time, he chose senior football in Denmark over junior football in a big club.
– It was hard to say no to Liverpool. When you grow up, you see the big names, and then you hear that they want you, and then you start to think a lot about it, Schjelderup has previously stated to Goal.com.
– I got a lot of help from my father and agents who helped me make the right decision, he continued.
– It hurt a little in the heart for my father and me that we did not say yes to Liverpool, but we chose first-team football here instead of the academy and play for U19 and U17 there. It feels like I have done the right thing, said the tea-year-old that time.
