Farewell to Giovanni Guerini, an internationally renowned baritone from Bergamo, who passed away last night (January 9-10) aged 59 after a short illness. The artist who lives in Gazzaniga with his mother and sister. Vocal technique teacher at the CDPM since its establishment, he distinguished himself as an interpreter of absolute value in the Renaissance, madrigal and sacred music repertoire.
He coated solo roles in the operas of Donizetti, Rossini, Mozart and Verdi. He performed in the most important theaters from La Scala in Milan, to halls in Madrid, New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, Vienna and Salzburg. After graduating in artistic singing at the Gaetano Donizetti Musical Institute in Bergamo with full marks, honors and special mention, the Municipality awarded him the Simone Mayr Prize. His debut in Italy was at Donizetti in Bergamo in Lucrezia Borgia by the composer from Borgo Canale with the Rai ensembles of Milan and the direction of Roberto Abbado. In the international field he made his debut in Madrid as Figaro in Gioacchino Rossini’s Barber of Seville, a role that also saw him star in the Stars and Stripes debut in New York and Dallas. Guerini has won several international awards and in 2020 he was appointed Meritorious Official Knight by the Order of the Knights of Malta for the high contribution of the art of bel canto.
The International Music Museum of London awarded him for professional merits in the field of vocal music. He has recorded for Cologne Radio Wrk, the English BBC and Dutch Radio. He ventured into the sacred repertoire of Duke Ellington in the Bergamo event Notti di luce. And he collaborated in the teaching of ancient vocalism in the Musicology department of Cremona. A profound connoisseur of all music from the Renaissance to jazz and pop, he has transferred his experience to vocal teaching by following hundreds of talents who have obtained important recognitions in the field of pop music and talents such as X Factor. The funeral will be held on Thursday 12 January at 3 pm in the parish church of Gazzaniga
