Deathbed fraud: A woman cheated a dying man – she was arrested at the end of the world
The case has already begun to unfold in 2017. Then “she left a wife on his deathbed to sign the will of his longtime sixty-four-year-old friendthanks to which she should have gained inheritance worth more than twenty-three million crowns,” says the spokesperson of the Police of the Czech Republic, Richard Hrdina. “She used him a very serious medical condition in which he was unable to understand the content, meaning or use of the presented documents, because he was s hospitalized with a bulky brain tumor in the hospital where he later died.”
These facts were soon discovered and the woman went to court. They dragged on until 2021, when the verdict was handed down – 5 years in prison, without parole, for attempted fraud. In textbook crime and punishment however, there was a catch. While she was about to commit a crime, the woman refused to undergo the punishment. “The convict avoided entering the prison for a long time and tried to use all available options, which were only fake,” the spokesperson continues.
The woman hid from justice for a year. “Using all operative means of search, including the air service helicopter, se managed to locate the wanted person in a cottage area near Prague. The woman was hiding in one of the cottages in Na Konci světa street,” informs Richard Hrdina. The arrest took place in October 2022 in Dolní Břežany. “After a medical examination, she was transferred to Pankrác prison, where he is now serving his five-year sentence,” he concludes.
