The City of Lyon has decided to improve the lighting of the 370 sites of the Lighting Plan. Insufficient for this historian.
At the end of last week, during a press conference, Sylvain Godinot, deputy mayor of Lyon in charge of ecological transition and heritage, told Lyon Capital having eased the limitation on heritage lighting.
Feedback from professionals in the hotel and catering sector would have convinced elected officials to further illuminate Lyon’s monuments. Without communicating, the City has therefore decided to illuminate the 370 sites of the Lighting Plan from Thursday to Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., compared to only Saturday until 11 p.m. a few weeks ago.
“We have balanced 45 years of work highlighting monuments for a symbol, more than a real energy saving”
Nicolas Brunot Jacquet, historian of architecture and urban planning
If the measure has generally achieved consensus, integrated into the 18 points of the city’s energy sobriety plan, for Nicolas Brunot Jacquet, historian of architecture and urban planning, “six hours of lighting per week for Lyon is not acceptable“.

The creator of the Architectural Promenades of Lyon started a petition and regret”the grim character of the city. We have balanced 45 years of work to enhance monuments for a symbol, more than a real energy saving“. The amount of savings allowed by the sobriety plan should be known by next week, a first assessment meeting being scheduled.
Economic impact
For the historian,we can do ecology while being in the radiation and it is not a story of right or left. Public goods are not just billboards that you turn off and on when you want“Nicolas Brunot Jacquet explains in particular that these measures prompted him to stop the visits dedicated to company personnel.
“I’m especially afraid that in a few years, we’ll talk about the beauty of Lyon in the past tense…”
“They delivered from all over France, going out to Lyon before going to a restaurant, he details. Today, I can no longer do that.“Despite the reinforcement of the lighting, the historian remains perplexed about the chosen times:”it should be illuminated as soon as night falls, not when people are eating. Nor do I ask to light up the monuments all night.“
More than the present, Nicolas Brunot Jacquet’s concerns are also and above all about the future. “It hurts my heart to see all the work done for years canceled like this. And to add : I’m especially afraid that in a few years, we’ll talk about the beauty of Lyon in the past tense…“
