In the case of “horses swapped”, the process on appeal has opened in Florence
The second degree trial for the case of the alleged “swapped horses”within which in June 2019 The court of Siena had sentenced the jockey Luigi Bruschelli known as Trecciolino and the veterinarian Mauro Benedetti to 4 years and 10 months, to 2 years and 7 months, for the accusation of forgery in public deed. In particular, the accusation concerned the alleged exchange between the Anglo-Arab horse Romantico Baio- and the thoroughbred Captain Forest on the occasion of the Palios 2014-2015.
The defense of the former king of Piazza del Campo had appealed to obtain acquittal from the accusation of the sum of forgery in public deed, after he had already been acquitted of the other charges in the first instanceof procedural fraud, breach of seals and mistreatment of animals, as a solution also reached for his son Enrico Bruschelli known as Bellocchio and Sebastiano Murtas known as Grandine. On the other hand, the Attorney General had challenged the acquittal ruling and today asked to accept the appeal and to confirm the conviction for the forgery. The Court’s decision will arrive on March 10, various civil parties are involved in the proceeding including animal welfare associations and the Municipality of Siena, the latter present only for the crime of forgery.
