Hit by a 4×4, the driver of a two-wheeler lost his life this weekend in Monaco
Five fire engines totaling thirteen men and a SMUR car with a doctor and a nurse were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The road was closed to traffic in both directions for more than an hour and a half.
The man on the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters found him in cardiac arrest and nothing was able to save his life. The driver was 54 years old. He was married and the father of two children. Valet-porter at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, he had just finished his service and was heading for Cap-d’Ail where he lived.
“I had known him for more than thirty years, explains Frédéric Darnet, director of the hotel establishment, still reeling from the tragic news yesterday. We were playing rugby together in Menton. He was athletic, he did not drink alcohol and was in very good health.” To deal with the situation, Frédéric Darnet set up a psychological cell at the Monte-Carlo Bay.
As for the motorist and his two passengers, they cannot prevent any physical trauma following the accident. Nothing is known of their identity, only that the car was not registered in Monaco.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact causes of the tragedy, the prosecution said on Sunday evening.
