Hilde Rød-Larsen warned against profiled psychiatrist:
Hilde Rød-Larsen (49) is in Copenhagen to have meetings with her publisher. Back where the story started. At the end of last year, she gave an interview to the Danish newspaper Information about the novel «Diamond Nights». She said in the interview that the book is based on her own story.
– How do you feel the support has been in recent weeks?
– Outwardly, it has probably appeared that I have stood quite alone, if you have to deal with what has been in the press. But I never felt alone myself. I have received an incredible amount of support from both known and unknown people along the way. It has of course been very important.
To be investigated in four cases
In booker the character is a psychologist, in reality the man the character is based on a psychiatrist. He had sex with her on his own therapy bench, she says. The psychiatrists were not her treating partners, but he sent her specialist literature on eating disorders, according to Rød-Larsen.
Only during the writing of the novel did Rød-Larsen understand that she had been exposed to a #MeToo incident, abuse in an asymmetrical power relationship. The conditions happened back in 1999-2000.
The psychiatrist, via his lawyer Halvard Helle, has rejected the claims that it was a metoo relationship. The lawyer indicates that Rød-Larsen was not his patient when they had sex in his office. He further claims that he did not know that she was ill.
In December last year, Rød-Larsen delivered a written notice against the psychiatrists. The State Administrator announced on Monday that theyt starts health professional supervision of the psychiatrists. He must be investigated for any breach of the Health Act.
– I am relieved, but not surprised that it is now in the hands of the authorities to investigate the psychiatrist in question.
In addition, several whistleblowers have come forward, and a further three cases must be investigated. One of them is an earlier notice. This case was closed as non-reprehensible behavior at the beginning of the 2000s.
– How surprised are you that supervision has also been initiated for other cases?
– I am not surprised. I have been sitting on a lot of information myself, which I am glad is no longer just with me, but also with the authority.
Do not want contact
Rød-Larsen says the warnings have set in motion an important process. She strongly encourages everyone else who is sitting on relevant knowledge to share it now.
– This is not the time to sit quietly in the boat and leave it to sick and vulnerable people to see to it that a serious matter for a number of individuals and important social institutions is sorted out.
– Have you received any inquiries from the psychiatrists or anyone in his circle?
– No, I have not received any inquiries.
– Would you have liked the psychiatrists to have contacted you?
– I did not want him to contact me.
The last few weeks have been demanding and Rød-Larsen hesitates a little when she gets a question about the time after she has interviewed for the Danish newspaper.
– It has been a nerve-wracking and stressful time. Both because I have had to go into my own story once again, and because of the insight I have gained into other people’s stories. But I register that I am stronger than I thought, and stand firm in this.
The psychiatrists’ lawyer is not surprised that supervision proceedings are being initiated.
– Based on Rød-Larsen’s narrative, it is not unexpected that the State Administrator makes a supervisory professional assessment of the case, but her claim is not correct for the reason. It is very important to emphasize that the State Administrator has in no way reached a conclusion in the matter. The relationship has never had anything to do with the psychiatrists’ work or Rød-Larsen’s health, says lawyer Helle to TV 2.
