Golden Youth: Racing in the tunnel and driving over 250 km/h
Golden youth, a topic that Blesk has been working on for a long time. Almost two years ago, a group of young men appeared on social networks who spent the night racing in the center of Prague. They didn’t mind, did they? travels at a speed of 240 km in an hour through the city that they were threatening everything around them… The police dealt with them, it didn’t lead anywhere.
Since then, this indecency has unfortunately spread in Prague, but also across the country. There are groups, car rallies, drives through the capital. One such meeting also took place on the last Monday of December. A large group of “racers” gathered again.
140 km/h in the city
As long as everything was happening in the parking lots, everything seemed to be fine according to the videos that were posted. Apart from launching rackets, drifting and revving engines, there was nothing that the members of the so-called golden youth would do to threaten other drivers.
However, their habit is that after some time they start moving through the center of the capital to other locations. This then begins to tempt the individual to break the rules again. For example, in one video from 5. května street, towards the center, at least two cars are racing each other.
They were not afraid to drive more than 140 km/h in full traffic. Isn’t that enough? Nowhere. When moving, they were not even shy about passing other cars, apparently out of “consideration” they drove in a convoy with their blinkers on.
Races in tunnels
A few days passed and the group met again. How else but for young drivers to race with each other again. Wednesday evening, lighter traffic. To get the right adrenaline, they weren’t afraid to stop in one of the tunnel complexes. A quick start followed and the race began.
Even at that moment, before they could leave, the dispatcher’s voice came from the loudspeakers in the tunnel. “Clear the tunnel immediately!” The operator warned about reckless drivers because there were at least three cars in the connection lane. In the tunnel it is not only dangerous, but above all forbidden. In the next video, one of the drivers can be seen speeding along the D1 highway. It has a speed of over 250 kilometers per hour on the speedometer.
The police did nothing
“We did not deal with any of the above-mentioned events on Wednesday and Monday,” said Prague police spokesman Jan Rybanský. At the same time, the police presidium boasted a few months ago that it would use its new Ferrari, which the police seized as part of an investigation into property crime, against similar competitors. “The vehicle will be used in a nationwide unit and we expect to deploy it against the most aggressive pirates of Czech roads,” described the head of the traffic police, Jiří Zlý, in July. So far, however, it has not been shown that the sports car would be of any use.
They are dangerous
Traffic expert Roman Budský from the VIZE 0 Platform is very critical of gambling drivers. “These are absolutely miserable pastimes. That person is dangerous, he exposes himself, but especially the environment, to danger and annoys the people around him. To come across such a mamluk is truly an experience,” said Budsky.
“It’s a strength that they allow such behavior even in the cities,” shakes his head at the reckless behavior expert. “He drives fast, his assistants are turned off, and at any time he can fly out and gracefully into a crowd of watching fans on the sidewalk or destroy stationary vehicles. And then it can turn out tragically…” Budský concluded. According to him, these drivers do it mainly because they want attention and adrenaline, driving in traffic is more fun for them than, for example, safer racing on a circuit.
