SBB panoramic car Hamburg → Zurich from €32 per direction incl. seat reservation » Travel-Dealz.de
Traveling by train in Germany is rarely a real experience. We are too familiar with ICE, IC and Co – no matter what class of car.
A trip on a rather exotic train is all the more exciting: the Swiss Federal Railways send EuroCity from Zurich to Hamburg and back once a day. That alone would not be worth talking about. But the train leads one at a time panoramic car with you – and you can use it with the first-class ticket at no extra charge.
Appropriately, there are tickets from Hamburg to Zurich in 1st class from just €31.90. And thanks to the graphic seat reservation, you can be sure of landing in the panorama car.
Of course you can not only book the train from Hamburg to Zurich, but also for individual sections. However, this is only slightly cheaper. Here are examples of prices for 1st class:
You still have to choose the 1st class yourself on the DB website. It WILL be a little cheaper in 2nd class, but with a journey time of up to 10 hours, the 12€ surcharge for 1st class is money well invested.
The information
Of course, there is no guarantee that the train will actually carry a panoramic car. As far as we know, the car IS used very reliably on this route.
No cancellation or rebooking is possible with the Super Sparpreis. For a surcharge of 6€ there is the regular savings price, which then allows a refund as a voucher (minus 10€ fee).
In general, the further you book in the future, the cheaper it will be. Trips can always be booked 6 months in advance, currently also until the beginning of July 2023.
You can also use the following form to make a booking. We will then direct you to the booking process Bahn.de Continue:
route and timetable
The EC 9 started daily at 6:30 a.m. in Hamburg-Altona. It then goes first via Bremen, Osnabrück and Münster to the Ruhr area. The EuroCity then drives along the Linke Rheinstrecke (Wiki) via Koblenz and Mainz to the south. This is considered to be one of the most beautiful railway lines in Germany – which is probably the reason why there is a panorama car at all.
On the way back the same game in reverse. Departure in Zurich is at 11 a.m., reaching Hamburg around 9:30 p.m. (plus delay).

Here is the route illustrated on a map:
Due to the unusual route, the train takes around one and a half hours longer than an ICE from Hamburg to Switzerland. But if you don’t have to take a seat in the ICE 4, it’s definitely worth it!
Reserve panorama car
The panoramic car is always the 1st class middle carriage. To ensure you have a seat there, you should use the graphical seat selection:
The panoramic car has the number 263. You can recognize it by the fact that the seats are max 96 walk. The other 1st class carriages have 6 additional seats (up to number 106) and a bicycle compartment.
By the way, the train pulls out from the inside. The curved, much larger panoramic windows are clearly visible:
The layout of the seats is 1-2 as shown in the picture above. But they are better padded than on most DB trains. It should be noted that there are no large tables in the panorama car. If you want to work on the train, you should probably avoid the panorama car.
