change of director for the reshoots of the film
The film adaptation of the video game Borderlandswith Cate Blanchettsees its director Eli Roth replaced for filming reshoots.
After some nice box office successes in 2022 (Unexplored, Sonic 2), the adaptations of video games to the cinema will land in force in 2023. Between the animated film Super Mario Bros.live adaptation Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves and the Gran Turismo directed by Neill Blomkamp, not to mention the series The last of us for HBO: film adaptations of video game franchises are still on the rise at the start of 2023.
Another adaptation expected in the months/years to come, that of Borderlands. In development for years on the side of Lionsgate, the franchise developed by Gearbox Software is at an advanced stage of its production since there are only a few reshoots left to complete with regard to filming. But plot twist, director Eli Roth (Hostel, green hell) will not return to the board of BorderlandsCorn will leave his place to his friend Tim Miller (dead Pool, Terminator: Dark Fate) to rotate reshoots.
An adaptation that will overshadow all the others?
But beware, contrary to what several rumors suggest, Deadline revealed that Eli Roth hasn’t been kicked out of the project, nor has he left for different artistics. According to the American media, the director of the recent The Clockwork Prophecywas forced to entrust the direction of the reshoots to his friend Tim Miller for reasons of schedule, the filmmaker is preparing to shoot his next film Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is the feature film adaptation of the (geniusly funny and gory) fake trailer made by Eli Roth for the diptych Crusher by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. This trailer was selling a greasy and dirty fake slasher where a masked killer has fun beheading teenager and elegantly stuffing cute end-of-year turkeys.
Nice pastiche of the big Z series that stain
If it has been known for some time that a feature film adaptation of this trailer was to see the light of day in dark rooms, it is therefore 15 years after the release of planet terror (Rodriguez) and boulevard of death (Tarantino) that will land Thanksgiving. Filming will begin next March.from a script by Jeff Rendell (who had previously written the 2007 trailer).
As for Borderlandsno release date has been announced yet. And if you can’t remember why you have to wait for this cinema version of Borderlandsremember that the screenplay for the film was written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The last of us) and that the cast is, among others, composed of Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Haley Bennett and Kevin Hart.
