Ready for New Year’s concerts
Michael is originally trained as an operator and has helped build up Opera Nordfjord from the 1990s, first as a soloist and for the last 20 years as a conductor. Together with his wife, Kari Pavelich, Michael received the King’s Medal of Merit in 2018 for his work with Opera Nordfjord and the music community in the region.
– With Michael and Opera Nordfjord, the network of contacts in the opera milieu in Norway sits, we have also got fantastic soloists with us in our New Year’s concerts:
– Tenor Marius Roth Christensen, who is now established in Den Norske Opera og Ballett, but who started his career as a guitarist and vocalist in the band Seigmann in 1991 before changing genres and favoring opera. He is also known to Norwegian TV viewers, most recently from memorable performances in Stjernekamp in 2021.
– Soprano Frøy Hovland Haltbakk is a young and up-and-coming singer. After graduating from the Opera Academy in Copenhagen in 2019, she has had a number of roles in the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, debuted in Germany in 2020 and from 2021 host associated with the Norwegian Opera and Ballet. Originally from Skurdal in upper Hallingdal, Frøy is one of our most promising young opera singers.
– The music from opera and the musical world will be widely known, but also some of the music we have not previously performed here in Ålesund. A varied concert where the Ålesund Opera Choir, led by Marianne Ravn Stavseng, has a central role, say the organisers.
An extra enrichment for this year’s New Year’s concerts will be a separate ballet feature with the oldest ballet dancers at Ålesund Ballettskole in a work by Prokofiev.
