Turkey will transit natural gas through Bulgaria ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – World
The agreement we signed with Bulgaria in the gas sphere will allow the supply of natural gas not only to Bulgaria, but also to other countries in the region through Bulgaria. This is stated by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Fatih Dönmez, quoted by the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
On Tuesday, Bulgargaz and the Turkish energy company Botash (BOTAS) signed an agreement for the access of the Bulgarian company to the gas transmission network and the liquefied natural gas terminals of our southern neighbor for a period of 13 years and amounts of 1.5 billion cubic meters per year , BTA reported.
In the article published today, Dönmez is quoted as also saying that the gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz is also included in the agreement. There is currently no information about this from the Bulgarian company. “Both countries are preparing their infrastructure to provide services to each other in this regard. There will be an average of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. This means a gas trade of almost 20 billion cubic meters in 13 years. with Bulgaria in the energy sector a long time ago, because the first natural gas came to Turkey along the route through Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria. However, this line (the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline – note ed.) has not been operating for two years. The system will now operate in reverse mode. We can provide services to all European countries in this region, especially in Bulgaria,” said Dönmez.
“We have a plan to create a center (hub – ed.) for gas trade. We have completed our physical infrastructure. This agreement is the first fruit of these efforts. Now, in accordance with these goals, there will be gas transfer from Bulgaria for other countries,” the Turkish energy minister also pointed out. Currently, Turkey receives natural gas from 15 countries through several pipelines and LNG terminals.
Yesterday, Dönmez was in Skopje, where he stated that it is possible to sign a memorandum for gas supplies in the Republic of North Macedonia. Currently, the only gas connection of the Republic of North Macedonia is with Bulgaria. Dönmez also announced that a gas conference will be organized in Turkey in February.
