They also collect local experiences, there is a huge gap between students depending on who studies where.
By yesterday afternoon, the participants of the Knowledge Walk had completed two-thirds of their intended destination: since Monday, they have walked more than a hundred kilometers from Miskolc to Hatvan, stopping at several places to talk with local teachers, parents, and interested parties about the problems of education and the problems experienced in villages and small towns. Several people joined them at one stage, on Wednesday, in Gyöngyös, they were greeted by a standing ovation in the main square, and then in the morning they left with an entourage of 40 people.
Tamás Totyik. one of the vice-presidents of the Pedagogus Union, who along with his co-vice-president Gábor Gosztonyi, Tamás Szűcs, a member of the national committee of the PDSZ, and Sándor Megyaszai, an activist who supports them, told our paper that he still feels supported and sympathized with their business, and only rarely do they encounter negative comments. He recalled that, in most places, it was raised as a problem that nowadays quality education only benefits the children of the upper-middle class, and almost no one cares about disadvantaged children and their catch-up. As a positive counter-example, the Tarnabod school in Dél-Heves, operated by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, where a sufficient number of pedagogical assistants help the work of the teachers, however, there are few such educational institutions in the country.
According to the vice-president, it is a telling fact that while there is a 20 percent difference in knowledge and abilities between a student living in Rózsadomb and a student living in a detached small region, for example Encs in Borsod County, at the start of school, this “scissors” leads to a 68 percent selection by the end of elementary school.
At the Gyöngyös forum, Tamás Szűcs talks about: when Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér presented the pivotal points of his views on education at a forum in December with teachers, there are only two cases where it is possible to know that the child comes first and that talent development is important, and what other aspects were said , how education and its actors should be controlled. He encouraged those present to join the trade unions as much as possible, because this is the only way to represent their interests. They all spoke highly of the empathetic attitude of the accompanying police officers, and half-jokingly remarked: they belong to the same ministry, their “boss” is the same march, and since the labor shortage in both sectors is similar, they could even replace each other.
Today, the knowledge march launched for education reaches Gödöllő, where, with the help of mayor György Gémesi, another forum is being organized, where teachers from the area are welcome. The journey ends on Saturday, in Budapest, where the crowd of online registrations so far is expected to be more than a thousand people and will accompany the participants from Örs vezér tér to Kölcsey Ferenc High School, where a public meeting will be held on the state of education and the problems, complaints and systemic problems heard during the knowledge march.
