LGV Bordeaux-Toulouse: the inhabitants of 67 municipalities of Charente-Maritime will pay
The landowners of 2,340 municipalities located in Nouvelle-Aquitaine will soon finance the Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV, and, among them, all those installed in 67 towns and villages of Charente-Maritime. The reason ? These municipalities are – on paper – less than sixty minutes by motor vehicle from a station served by this future high-speed line.
So decided the National Assembly after adopting the 2023 finance law and activating a new special equipment tax, the TSE. Paid by the landowners in the municipalities concerned, this TSE should respond to an increase of 0.4% of their property tax, advances the authorized. It will apply to all built and unbuilt properties, to the housing tax on second homes or even to the property contribution of companies.
Cities rather oriented towards Angoulême
This tithe will thus be used to finance the “Great South-West Rail Project”, and therefore the LGV Bordeaux-Toulouse hoped for before 2032. Alongside Toulouse and Bordeaux designate the municipalities located south of Charente-Maritime, such as Montendre, Mirambeau, Montguyon or Montlieu-la-Garde.
Located close to the Charente, the village of Chevanceaux is also concerned. “I had no knowledge of this project. It is surprising to solicit municipalities located north of Bordeaux, it will be necessary to explain to me, ”ironically mayor Emmanuel Festal. He has already seen the LGV Paris-Bordeaux pass nearby: “Do we have content? I’m not sure… We’re more focused on Angoulême, in Charente. Bordeaux is one of the most congested cities in France, it has become inaccessible to us and its ring road is hell…”
According to the trigger, the TSE – applied from this year 2023 – should bring in 29.5 million euros and will supplement the funds already paid by the State, the European Union and local authorities.
