Asked on Wednesday January 4 about his view of the actions of civil disobedience organized by environmental activists, the EELV mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet showed that it is “a little embarrassed to open your eyes”.
Blocking of roads by activists from Last Renovation, punching actions by Extinction Rebellion during the Festival of Lights, against gas stations, at the Bayer headquarters, on the Arkema site, sabotage of electric scooters, deflated SUVs … For the past two years, actions of civil disobedience granted to Lyon in favor of the climate by environmental activists have multiplied.
“It is good that young people are concerned about the future of our humanity in its biosphere. It is gratifying to see young people who are committed“, Grégory Doucet, Mayor of Lyon
Invited to give his view on these actions during a lunch organized with journalists, the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet showed that “the issues raised are relevant and legitimate. They are worn by people of our generation. These people think “my future is at stake”. It is good that young people are concerned about the future of our humanity in its biosphere. It’s heartening to see young people getting involved“.

Break with the president of the Métropole de Lyon
On the merits, he joined the proposals of his ecological counterpart at the Metropolis of Lyon, Bruno Bernard, who confided in November, after a blockage of the road by Last Renovation, “energy renovation is a priority lever, which is not going enough quickly in France”.
On the merits: Yes, energy renovation is a priority lever, which is not going fast enough in France.
On the form, I disapprove of these blockages. ❌
I do not believe that this type of action is relevant to advancing this cause. Let’s meet up @last_renov. ⤵️ https://t.co/QQsj8pY1fU

On the form, his answer is however quite different. When Bruno Bernard explained how to deactivate these blocks, declaring “I do not believe that this type of action is relevant to advancing this cause. Let’s meet up“, Grégory Doucet rather tends to defend them. “It’s a little embarrassing to open your eyes. They defend nothing other than the right to life, to survival. If it is necessary to go through it to raise awareness”argues the mayor of Lyon, while adding that “when they attack works, it is with water-based paint“. Proposals that did not fail to react and be criticized by Internet users.
