A round table on the Constitution in Luxembourg
The non-profit organization Platform Immigration and Integration Luxembourg invites the public to discuss on Thursday 19 January.
The cultural center Gare de Luxembourg (29, rue de Strasbourg) will host on Thursday 19 January, at 7 p.m., a round table on the new Luxembourg Constitution organized by the non-profit organization Platform Immigration and Integration Luxembourg (PiiLux). The public will benefit from the experience and expertise of: Mars Di Bartolomeo, LSAP deputy and co-rapporteur to the Commission for Institutions and Constitutional Revision at the Chamber of Deputies, Nathalie Oberweis, Déi Lénk deputy and member of the Institutions and Constitutional Revision, Rhéa Ziadé jurist at the secretariat of the Consultative Commission on Human Rights and Laura Zuccoli former president of ASTI. Moderation will be provided by Franco Barilozzi, member of the PiiLux board of directors and former director of CLAE.
Luxembourg has accelerated the final process for the adoption in 2023 of a new Constitution. New public freedoms are enshrined in the Constitution, such as the protection of personal data or the right to found a family. Among the new objectives of constitutional value are the safeguarding of biodiversity and the fight against climate change, the recognition of animals as sentient beings and the protection of their well-being, the right to housing and the protection of cultural heritage. The Luxembourg language, the flag, the coat of arms and the national anthem are enshrined in the Constitution. The attachment to multiculturalism is confirmed.
The new text also confirms Luxembourg’s adherence to the European integration process. During the evening, questions will be raised: why not a referendum to respect this Constitution? How to associate citizenship to the constitutional process? Is linguistic equality really guaranteed? Entrance to the evening is free. Simultaneous translation (into other languages and sign language) will be provided live by the City of Luxembourg, but you must register for the integration and specific needs service by email at [email protected] until 16 January.
