The modernization of Prague’s Masaryk station can begin, the transport hub is in for big changes — ČT24 — Czech Television
The station will have six wheelchair-accessible platforms. The reconstruction will include the track, all technology, traction lines and power supply. Builders will work during operation, only partial restrictions of connections corresponding to the individual stages of project implementation will be necessary.
Masaryk station is located right in the center of Prague and is the third busiest station on the Czech railway. The goal of the extensive modifications that the Railway Administration is preparing is to bring comfort to passengers corresponding to today’s times. In particular, the number of platforms and tracks will be increased, and the station will be urbanistically integrated into the surroundings. The new platform will mainly be used by future trains at the airport.
An essential part of the modernization is a new platform above the track. It will not only connect Florenc with Hybernská street and Masaryk station with the main station, but it will also offer a new vestibule for waiting passengers. From it, escalators, stairs and elevators will lead directly to the individual platforms. Part of the platform will be planted with greenery, thus creating a peaceful oasis right in the center of the metropolis.
The reconstruction of Masaryk railway station is part of the modernization of the railways from the center of Prague to Kladno. It is divided into several stages. In two years, work began on the sections, specifically from Kladno to Kladno-Ostrovec and on the line between the Praha-Bubny station and the future new stop Praha-Výstaviště.
