Szekszárd – USK Prague 56:95, USK Prague’s basketball players won clearly in Szekszárd
Coach Natálie Hejková’s team jumped to second place in the group A table by a score ahead of Polish Polkowice, who suffered a 61:111 debacle at Fenerbahce Istanbul. The Turkish team also has 14 points at the top of the table.
The women from Prague traveled to Hungary with eleven players, only the injured Barbora Wrzesiņská was missing. The home team kept pace only in the beginning, when after a hit by Vivians they took the lead 13:9. However, the women from Prague strengthened their defense after the time-out, and nine bodies in a row continued the development in the first quarter.
In the second part, the Czech team dominated. The USK players scored nineteen points in a row from 20:15, won the quarter 32:13 and went to the cabins with a comfortable score of 24 points. They also outscored their opponents in rebounds by a ratio of 30:15, eleven of which were offensive. Jones’ 15 points was joined by Thomasová (11) with a double-digit contribution.
The opponent entered the second half with seven points in a row and Hejková took a time out. After him, USK returned to the shooting wave and jumped to a 61:33 lead with eleven points in a row. After free throws by Valériane Vukosavljevičová, the women from Prague gained a 31-point lead before the final part.
In the last quarter, Hejková rested most of the supports and gave space to the players from the benches. Tereza Vyoralová or Témi Fágbénléová did well, finishing the match with 13 points at the end. USK ended up winning by 39 points, setting their Euroleague high in this one. So far it has been a 32-point win over Olympiakos Piraeus.
The women from Prague now await a league match on the Ostrava pitch. On Friday, they can get their 256th victory in a row in the home competition and equal the record of the Brno Frogs from 1997 – 2006.
