Would you like to become a volunteer just like Piet van der Werf?
Piet van der Werf has been a volunteer at Sporthal Blauw-Wit for about 25 years. And has been helping with the activities of West Beweegt for about 10 years.
He takes a week off from work during the autumn holidays. Then he helps the whole week with the activities of the Sport en Funtoer in the Blauw-Metal. It all started years ago. Van der Werf was a coach for a futsal team. Coincidentally, his team had to play in Sporthal Blauw-Wit, the home base of korfball club Blauw-Wit. And close by for Van der Werf. The association asked him to also referee matches at korfball. He never left.

Of course it is also for fun
“In addition to whistling matches, I also sat on the canteen committee of the korfball association for a while. I bill of sale and stand behind the bar. Now on Tuesday mornings I clean the entire canteen with a group of volunteers. At 63 years old, I am one of the youngest. Some of them are in their 80s. We are cleaning from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. We’ll have a cup of coffee halfway through. Of course it is also for fun. We all know each other from the korfball club. I also help with the hall cleaning. All in all, I can be found here about 10 to 12 hours a week.”
Hey master
10 years ago Van der Werf the employees of West Moves through the annual Sport en Funtoer. From that moment on he also helps with the loan of games at the Cruyff Court on the Berceusestraat. “Children can borrow scooters or balls here, for example. And vests so they can form 2 football teams. About 15 to 20 children come every day. I kinda let them know it’s safe for them. If there’s a fight, I’ll even walk over. And I keep the street a little clean. After work at Schiphol, I often go to the Cruyff Court first and then go home. Here too I am about 10 to 12 hours a week. The kids know me here. “Hey master,” they say. Exercise is so important for health. The fact that those children like it so much at the Cruyff Court, that makes me happy. I will continue like this for a long time. When I retire I will have even more time to help out here.”
We are very happy with him
Amal Fadi is one of the sports employees of West Beweegt: “Piet helps with everything. Put things down and remove them again. He keeps the square clean and speaks to young people when they throw something on the ground. If we have a bouncy castle, he’s there to make sure it’s safe for all the kids. What is very special: during the autumn holidays he takes time off from work to help us with the activities. He is more than 100 percent committed. We are very happy with Zoom.”
