Drug war continues despite arrested Dutchmen: another explosion at Antwerp home | Abroad
An explosive device went off again at a house in the Antwerp district of Berchem in Belgium in the night from Monday to Tuesday. That happened in the Deken De Winterstraat, the police jammed. There have been several attacks in the street in recent months, for which at least four Dutch people have already been arrested.
The blast occurred around 1:20 a.m. and destroyed the front door. A police spokesman said no one was injured. It is being investigated whether it concerns an attack within the drug environment. An explosive device also went off in Merksem in the night from Monday to Tuesday.
At the beginning of November, two Dutch men aged 22 and 27 were detained near Breda in connection with an explosion in the Wilrijk district of Antwerp. The men were in a car with a Dutch license plate that drove away after the explosion, as can be seen on camera images. The police placed a camera in front of the house after an explosive device went off in this street earlier.
Two weeks later, two more Dutch people were arrested, including a 15-year-old boy.
A drug war has been going on in Antwerp for some time now, in which the Dutch are also said to be involved. At the end of October, a stopped vehicle with a Dutch license plate, a grenade and a handgun was found in Antwerp. Two people were arrested.
The Belgian family seems to be pivotal in the drug war. EH A son of the family had previously been prosecuted for drug crimes. He was jailed for three months for cocaine deals. He was acquitted on appeal.
