80 migrants rescued at sea off Calais, including one in severe hypothermia
Two drifting boats, with 80 migrants on board, were taken care of by rescuers off Calais on the morning of Monday January 2. A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital in a state of emergency.
2022 ended with a record number of migrant crossings (45,756) in England. These first days of the year 2023 confirm the trend. Monday January 2, no less than 80 people, spread over two drifting boats, were rescued in the open sea off Calais (Pas-de-Calais).
The first tub with 49 shipwrecked people on board was identified and then taken care of in the early morning by a public service patrol boat. the Cormorant of the French Navy repatriated these candidates for exile to the port of Calais.
In the same morning, another makeshift boat was spotted at sea with 31 people on it. The canoe SNS 077 Our Lady of Risban of the national sea rescue company of Calais and the public service patrol boat (PSP) Plover of the French Navy were hired on site to save them and drop them off at the port of Calais.
