Rugby World Cup, returns of the Masquelours, senatorial… The major events of 2023 in Nord Pas-de-Calais
Sports, politics, culture, here are the most notable events (totally subjective selection) of the year 2023 that await you in the region.
Farewell 2022, welcome 2023! What will happen this year in Nord Pas-de-Calais? What are the major events not to be missed? Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of dates to remember, apart from the usual unmissable events already listed in your diaries (Grande Braderie de Lille, Enduropale du Touquet…). Overview.
2023 in jubilation? Sacrificed for the past three years by the Covid, the Dunkirk carnival should make its comeback with great fanfare this January. Without gauge, without health restrictions. The poster for this new edition sets the tone (see below).
These three months of festivities will kick off with a bang the Bal des Neuches Cô in Uxem on January 7 to close with the Pitgam band on April 16. You will find everything the calendar of balls and bands on the website of the City of Dunkirk.
The Cambrésien Florian Sénéchal will be able to defend his title at home. Because it is in the North that will take place them 2023 French road championships, from June 22 to 25. Cassel and Hazebrouck have been designated host cities and will see the best cyclists, men and women, compete for the tricolor champion jersey, during three days of trials (one time trial and two stages).
This is the seventh time that this event has taken place in Hauts-de-France, after the coronations of Raymond Delisle in Soissons (1969), Régis Clère in Bailleul (1982), Pierrick Fédrigo (2005) and Sylvain Chavanel (2011). ) in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Nacer Bouhanni in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (2012) and Arnaud Démare in Saint-Omer (2017).
The two northern municipalities are already the hosts of several great events, including the 4 days from Dunkirk (which will be held from May 16 to 21, 2023), with a flagship finish at Mont Cassel.
The Lille metropolis will get into oval ball time from September 8. It will host five matches of this 10th edition of the Rugby World Cup, at the Pierre Mauroy stadium. Including a meeting of the XV of France against Uruguay, September 14. Two big teams, England and Scotland, will also tread the Lille lawn.
The event is only held once every four years. The defending champion is South Africa. If for the time being there is no more space available on the site, the ticket office will reopen from January 24 for tickets resold by buyers.
The battery valley will begin to take shape in 2023 in Hauts-de-France. The region which wants to become the French jewel in the production of electric batteries will see the establishment of three factories on its soil (Douvrin, Douai, Dunkirk).
The Douvrin site – managed by Automotive Cells Company (ACC) – will be the first to open at the end of this year, with a manufacturing target of 2 million batteries per year. And a promise of “350 to 500 direct jobs” created.
After three years rich in electoral events (municipal in 2020, departmental and regional in 2021, presidential and legislative in 2022), the coming year promises to be rather bland. Only one event is on the political calendar: the senatorial elections in September 2023.
They take place every three years to renew half of the senators, who therefore sit for a six-year term. In the North, they are eleven in number, against seven in Pas-de-Calais.
At the table, around here, there are not only mussels and fries that are bathed in Maroilles. Without which the Hauts-de-France would certainly not have been promoted “European region of gastronomy” for 2023. A label designated for the first time to a French region.
This distinction, beyond recognition, will be an opportunity to promote the actors of the culinary world of the region. Events will be offered throughout the year, in the four corners of the territory, to develop the art of the table. A dedicated website gathers all the dates.
