Hanover. The apartment of a young family with a small child in Hanover-Vinnhorst fell victim to a fire. The fire broke out around 7:25 p.m. on the ground floor on Jasminweg on New Year’s Day. “All residents and one other person had left the building unharmed before the fire brigade arrived,” says fire brigade spokesman Jan Janssen. The apartment was so badly damaged that it is no longer usable for the time being.

When the rescuers arrived, there was already a fire in a ground floor room. “The flames were shooting out the window,” says Janssen. The parents (24 and 34) and the one-year-old child were already standing in front of the house on Jasminweg. The fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading throughout the house by advancing several fire-fighting teams wearing breathing apparatus. To do this, they open numerous wall and ceiling panels, and Enercity also switches off the gas and electricity.
Fire agreed 100,000 euros in damage
The operation was only over after two hours, and the fire brigade estimates the damage at around 100,000 euros. Janssen: “The rooms on the ground floor were so badly affected by the smoke from the fire that they are currently not habitable.” The young family is now staying with friends until further notice. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
