Doctors in Prague reported to hygienists last week fewer cases of flu and other weeks of respiratory infections than in the previous week. The disease has decreased by about a third, inform the website of the Prague hygiene station.
The decrease in morbidity before the end of the year happens every year, according to hygienists, it corresponds to the period of holidays and Christmas vacations. In the years before the covid-19 epidemic, according to hygiene data, the main wave of the flu epidemic rose, peaking at the turn of January and February.
In the last week, there were 870 patients with respiratory tract infections in Prague per 100,000 inhabitants. Compared to the previous week, it is 35 percent less. “A decrease in the disease is also observed in the group of diseases with a clinical picture of influenza,” the hygienists said. There are 28 of them per 100,000 inhabitants, 36 percent less compared to the previous week.
Hygienists also register five cases of severe respiratory disease in adults, one more in the previous week. All of them contracted influenza A. The state health institute defines this serious condition as an illness with a sudden rise in temperature, with a cough and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, which transports the patient to the hospital because of breathing difficulties. Foreign definitions add a temperature above 38 degrees Celsius.
