New restriction for Toulouse motorists. As of January 1, 2023, the ban on circulars in the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) will apply to individuals.
Thus, the thumbnails Crit’Air 4, 5 and the unclassified could no longer circulate in the ZFEs. This concerns, for gasoline, cars from before 1997 and for diesels, cars before 2005. For two-wheelers, vehicles registered before 2004 will be affected by the measure.

16,000 cars prohibited?
The ZFE was set up by the government to improve air quality. It should thus make it possible to reduce the atmospheric pollutionresponsible for 2,800 deaths per year in Occitania, according to figures mentioned by the prefect of Haute-Garonne in 2016. “Ultimately, more than 430,000 people will breathe better quality air”, estimates the Metropolis.
In Toulouse, according to François Chollet, vice-president in charge of the environment, 16,000 private cars would thus be prohibited in 2023, according to his estimate, which is based on a count of cars circulating at time “t” in Toulouse.
Exemption for small riders
On December 8, the elected representatives of Toulouse Métropole voted in favor of a pass ZFE at a metropolitan council. The system will provide many users of the circular route within the perimeter of the Low Emissions Zone, regardless of their Crit’air sticker. However, the character of the derogation will be temporary.
the Toulouse ZFE pass will apply for 52 days a year and will be aimed “at motorists who travel occasionally to Toulouse”, indicates the Metropolis. It concerns both individuals and professionals, regardless of their place of residence. As a reminder, the first restrictions imposed by the ZFE of Toulouse activated on March 1st, with a view to the exclusion of all vehicles classified Crit’air 3 and more on January 1st. 2024.
