their events are the opening of the New Year on the first of January
“We are holding this concert for the fourth time, which will be broadcast live by Bartók Rádió from 6:00 p.m., and viewers of Duna Television can watch the New Year’s overture from 7:30 p.m.,” said Márton Devich, managing director of Hungarian Radio Art Ensembles, Bartók Rádió channel director in the Friday morning program of the current channel M1.
As he recalled, since 2020 Tamás Vásáry, János Kovács and Ádám Medveczky have already conducted the MR Symphony Orchestra at the event. He added: these concerts are also popular abroad, in recent years they have been heard on Chinese, German and Italian radio stations.
Andrea Vigh, rector of the Academy of Music, talks about the fact that the soloists of the New Year’s Overture are the young talents of the Academy of Music; this year Ildikó Szabady plays the flute, Zoltán Schwartz plays the violin, and Joszuke Simizu plays the cello.
The program includes works by Mozart, Liszt, Erkel, Dvorák, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Popper and Dohnányi, among others. The rector emphasized: for years, the program has been held in the spirit of lightness, elegance, and fun, this year it is built around dances, with specifically Hungarian elements. Márton Devich added that Palotás from Erkel Hunyadi’s László is traditionally part of the show.
“The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded by Ernő Dohnányi, who was also the rector of the Academy of Music, so it is particularly interesting that a member of the family, Oliver von Dohnányi, will be the current conductor. Hungarian musicians love the conductor very much because he is extremely gallant and a good professional who is always a gentleman and charming in the way he conducts,” said Andrea Vigh.
The already sold-out concert will be hosted by Ádám Bősze. After Budapest, the audience can hear the production at two rural locations: on January 2 at the Csiky Gergely Theater in Kaposvár, and the following day at the National Theater in Szeged.
