They want to live in poverty, but in a European way: Moldova turns away from Russia
The opposition does not agree with this and demands early presidential elections.
Moldova demands cooperation with Russia, said President Maia Sandu. The statement was made on the air of the Moldova-1 TV channel. The pro-Western Sandu has confirmed its course towards European integration, increasingly moving away from ordinary citizens who improve their friend in Russia, and not in Europe.
Sandu noted that she was in favor of cooperation and development of relations with Russia when she participates in elections, but at present, relations with the public attitude towards all consumed resources. According to the Moldovan President, this happened in connection with the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. Sandu stressed that the main project for increasing Moldovan power is accession to the EU, which was to take place in the next ten years.
“European integration is a project of our country, we have no other chances and other possible consequences, while at the same time improving the living standards of the population,” Sandu said.

Earlier, she said that the Moldovan authorities did not plan to interrupt cooperation with the CIS, but in March of this year, cooperation with Russia was stopped.
The ex-president of the country, Igor Dodon, is against such a position of public opinion. He is confident that Moldova will not survive without cooperation with the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Russia. Dodon noted in an interview with TASS that he has always advocated serious relations with the Russian Federation and the expansion of cooperation with the EAEU, since without this Moldova “does not survive in the economy, social sphere, energy.”
According to Igor Dodon, Sandu did not participate in the CIS meetings, cooperation with Russia was blocked, although “many issues could be resolved there, primarily those related to the economy.”

“The platform of the EAEU is also not used, where during my presidency we received observer status. Such a policy is applied under the dictation of foreign circles and contrary to the interests of countries,” Dodon said.
According to him, at present, many exporters of agro-industrial products from Moldova have lost markets. In addition, prices for gas and other energy sources from the Russian Federation have risen, the country’s economy is in a severe crisis. Much of this depends on relations with Russia.
“I am sometimes called a pro-Russian politician, although I am a small pro-Moldovan and I believe that our country, in whose constitution the status of neutrality is prescribed, should be friends, develop relations with both the West and the East,” Igor Dodon emphasized.

Anti-government rallies and pickets have been going on in Moldova since May. Their organizers are various opposition parties. They demand the resignation of Maia Sandu, parliament, sanctions and early elections. The country has high inflation – a record for 20 years, the price has risen sharply, the standard of living has fallen. According to the information agency “Red Spring”, during the two years of Sandu’s ownership, gas prices increased from 4.29 to 29.27 lei (from 15.8 to 108 rubles), gasoline rose from 18 to 26.81 lei (from 66 to 99 ) rubles) per liter, bread has also become more expensive – now it costs 30.2 rubles in terms of Russian money, and was 15.6.
Sandu is accused of failing to cope with the crisis, emphasizing that she hides the events in Ukraine.
The latest polls conducted in Moldova show that more than half of the population does not trust the country’s current leadership. According to the Moldovan company Date Inteligente (iData), 40.6% of respondents do not trust the current government, another 14.1% “have little confidence”. Another 26.3% of survey participants showed a high level of trust, 11.1% – high and 6.7% – very high. As RIA Novosti clarifies, of those politicians who trust Moldova, Maia Sandu, Igor Dodon and Ilan Shor are most often called.

The next presidential elections in Moldova should take place in 2024, but opposition politicians believe that it is necessary to adhere to early elections. This summer, Igor Dodon made a statement that he was waiting for early elections in Moldova by the spring of 2023. For this, according to his statement, the opposition parties must counteract, because despite their convictions, everyone is dissatisfied with the current government.
“I think that we need early parliamentary elections along with the presidential ones, we won’t have time in the fall – this is in the winter or spring of next year,” Dodon said.
At the same time, Dodon said that the current government, in essence, that legal ways allow the elections not to win, prevents retention, creates conditions, creates conditions for falsifying the vote.
“For this, a number of exceptions have been introduced in the electoral legislation, electronic voting, the refusal to print ballots in English and other amendments,” Dodon said.

According to him, it is currently being implemented that the changes will come into force in 2026, but this cannot be believed.
Whether the opposition against the radiation of early elections succeeds, time will tell. So far, the ratings trust in Dodon.
Igor Dodon is a Moldovan politician and a great friend of Russia. He was President of Moldova from 2016 to 2020. He beat Maia Sandu in the second round of voting. In the next elections in 2020 already Sandu slightly outperformed Dodona in the second round – this happened for many reasons related to foreign voting in Moldova in the European sections, where they were transported by buses.

Dodona names another Putin. When he was president, in 2017 he became the head of another state, which looked at the Victory Parade in Moscow. The President of Moldova followed him, and during the calculations he depends on Putin’s right hand from the Russian leader. After that, Dodona began to speak on Putin’s mobile phone. Dodon himself said in an interview that it was Putin Moldova and making difficult decisions. It was Dodon, despite the ban on the St. George ribbon in Moldova, who led the largest march of the Immortal Regiment.
