Hanover region: Böller fright? Blind horse falls into the river
Actually, firecrackers are only allowed from Saturday (December 31st). Of course, that doesn’t stop a couple of people from igniting beforehand – also in the Hanover region.
For a blind horse, this now had bitter consequences. Apparently startled by a firecracker, it ran off the paddock and straight into the river. The animal could not get out of its own accord. Fortunately, the comrades from the Seelze fire brigade (Hanover region) were quick to start!
Hanover region: horse runs from paddock
As head of operations Marek Wegner reported, the horse Johnny was apparently startled by a New Year’s Eve firecracker on Friday (December 30) and called from the paddock. Because it couldn’t see anything, the animal ran into the river, from which it couldn’t find its way out on its own.
When the firefighters, informed by the horse owner, arrived, Johnny had already walked a little way downstream. “The site was about 400 meters away from the paddock,” said Wegner. The horse stood quietly on a sandbar in the middle of the river.
Rescue operation in the Hanover region
The rescue was tackled together with the water rescue group of the existing fire brigade in Lohnde. In order not to frighten the blind horse, a boat was not used. The helper walked to the middle of the river, put a halter on the quietly waiting animal and walked with it back to the bank.
Also exciting:
There Johnny was already expected by his owner. At the end, the horse was also presented to a veterinarian. It came out of its predicament safely, said Wegner. (dpa)
