Inka Grings, top scorer six times in the Bundesliga and twice European champion with the DFB selection, will coach the Swiss women’s national team from January 2023, which meant that the coaching position at FC Zurich was vacant. Jacqueline Dünker, an ex-Bundesliga player, will be in charge there again in the future. The 36-year-old takes on the post of head of sport in addition to the job of trainer.
“In Jacqueline Dünker we were able to hire an experienced and ambitious trainer,” said FCZ President Ancillo Canepa. “We are convinced that she will continue to develop our first women’s team. She will carry out her duties as sports director together with the FCZ Women’s Sports Commission.”
As a player, she gained experience in the German women’s Bundesliga in the jersey of SC 07 Bad Neuenahr, and after her career she was assistant coach at Bayer 04 Leverkusen until the end. “Jacqueline Dünker approached us with the wish to be allowed to accept the position of head coach at FC Zurich. We don’t want to deprive her of this opportunity and therefore complied with her request,” said Thomas Eichin, head of youth and women at Bayer 04.
“It’s not easy for me to say goodbye. I appreciate what I had in Leverkusen,” said the A-license trainer. Now things continue for Dünker in Switzerland. “I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in me and I am really looking forward to the new challenge,” said Dünker, who has signed a permanent contract in Zurich.
Dünker: “I was positively impressed”
“After the first contact, I was positively impressed by the club and the conditions and I can hardly wait to develop the FCZ women further together with the coaching team,” explained Dünker.
